Racing Tonight has been Cancelled.

Due to poor weather and a higher percentage of rain expected all day long we will be cancelling the racing for tonight. Opening Night will now be rescheduled for May 29th. The Enduro scheduled for tonight will be rescheduled for next week. With a full card next week, as always, we will try to get all 100 laps in on the Enduro race. Due to noise bylaw regulations we must cease racing prior to 11:00 pm, so we will get in as many laps as possible, trying to reach that magic number of 100.

Join us for our new Gow Property Management Opening Night May 29th with all of our regular classes, Late Models, Thunder Cars, Legends, Mini Stock and Four for Fun. Special Features will include the Vintage Modifieds and a 100 Lap Enduro. ( Time Permitting ). This will be one of our biggest opening nights and one you will not want to miss.

CCS loses a friend, past racer and track supporter.

Sometimes we can never understand why things happen the way they do, and this is one of those things when we ask ourselves "Why". On Tuesday May 7 at the age of 63, Ross Mould passed away.

Ross Mould has been around the track for a long time. He was a racer years ago at the track, Rosco Racing # 53, then became a fan, and then watched his sons, Doug Mould race in the mini stock class, and Kevin Mould in the Four for Fun class.

Matt Mould said Ross Mould was in his shop a couple of weeks ago and was looking forward to another exciting racing season at CCS. I would like to think that he still will be watching.

New Thunder Car Coming to CCS

 

This is the new # 88 Thunder Car of Neil Leblond from Buckingham, PQ. Neil has raced the last few years at St. Eustache and is looking forward to being in the Thunder Class at CCS. The # 88 car is sponsored by Canadian Tire in Buckingham and Castrol. Neil is 24 years old and is looking to make his mark this year by taking a run at our Thunder Car Championship.

Unlike eyeglasses, hearing aids are not an instant fit solution. They need to be programmed according to the hearing loss and may require follow-up appointments for further fine tuning. For first time users it may take an adjustment period to get used to all of the new sounds, like living near the airport, your brain needs time to filter out the sounds you don't want versus those you wish to hear.

Track News

There are so many things going on now to ready the track for our 2013 season, and I wanted to bring you up to date on as many things as possible. Here they are in no particular order:

Sunday May 5th we will be down at the track from 11 to 6 cleaning up and doing some misc. cleanup and painting. If you would like to come down and give us a hand, we would appreciate it.

Dyno Day - May 11 - Book your time now for your four for fun car and mini stock.

Membership Sign Up Day - Sign ups will be done at the track May 11th  and 12th from noon to 5 pm. Memberships will remain the same as last year. $ 125.00 with 3 hrs volunteer time and $ 175.00 with no volunteer time. They may also be purchased on May 15th from 7 to 9 pm.

Practice schedule - Practice time will be made available Sat. May 11th and 12th from noon to 5 pm, May 15th which is our test and tune night from 6 to 10pm and Sunday May 19th from noon to 5 pm.
Practice cost will be $ 30.00

Late Model Tires - Our first shipment of tires is in and now available for sale. The cost remains the same as last year $ 155.00 per tire. Sales per team will be limited to 8 tires. Our second order for tires will be made shortly for the balance of the season.

Thunder Car Tires - The Thunder Car tires are in Barrie and will be picked up this week and will be available for sale next Saturday. The cost of each tire has risen to $ 115.00 from $ 110.00 last year.

Capital Car Show was a Big Hit

Sometimes when you do marketing you never know what you are going to get out of it. Well the Capital Car Show. Capital City Speedway was there representing the Speedway and the Dragway, with 2 Drag Cars and 4 Stock Cars. Our display had to have been the most popular one there, as our booth was fully interactive. Our doors were open and everyone was welcome to get in a race car and experience it perhaps for the very first time. It was  a big hit with the kids and adults alike. Our biggest smile came from a senior citizen, and we will just leave it at that, who got into my Drag car and had to have had the biggest smile of the day. She thanked us for putting on such a great display and allowing anyone into the vehicles. It was the highlight of her day, along with many others.

All customers into the show got a $ 5.00 off coupon to use this year for one of our shows, and over 4000 coupons were handed out. I think everyone who came in came by our booth and got to see first hand some of the cars that run there. Some have not heard of CCS, some had not been there since their Dad took them there over 20 years ago, but made it clear that it was about time that they took their son to the races. Overall, it was a successful show and hopefully we created a few more new fans.

Thanks go out to a lot of people who helped make this show possible. We could not have put on such a great show without them. Plans are under way to have another Ottawa Classic and Custom Car Show next year, which will be even better, and you can bet we will be there again.

 

 

A Sign of the Times

Finally winter has lost its bite, and we can start the process of getting the track back up to speed and start some of the spring projects we hoped to start about a month ago. Last year, we had started over a month ago getting the facility ready for the season. This weekend was the first time this year we actually got any work done. Yes, there still is some snow at the track. The track is now snow free and hopefully over the next week or so we will get an opportunity to get it cleaned off, and ready for some practice.

Our first project of the season was getting our front sign rebuilt after what had to have been the windiest last few months that I can remember.

 

 

The frame has been repaired and new plywood has been installed. Hopefully over the next week or so we will be able to install the sign section.

 

On Saturday I started working on the Drag Strip expansion plans widening out the future staging lanes area. Yesterday, Shawn Kerr was out working on the other side of the strip, clearing out a few trees and working on the new trench for the replacement of the wiring.

 

 

 

With only 30 days left to go before opening night, we will have our work cut out for us. I hope to see all of you at the races. Coming soon to Capital City Speedway.

Jeff Saunders, the President of  Enstone Construction, is a fan of racing. Jeff has worked with his son, Brian for many years starting with Go Karts, and then moving up to Legends two years ago.

Enstone Construction is also one of the sponsors for the # 15 Legend of Jeff and Brian Saunders. If you were there last year you would have seen the progression of Brian as he drove that Legend harder and harder, each and every week. Brian moved to Legends two years ago, but joined us late in 2011, moving up from go karts. In 2012, Brian showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with in his search for the Legends Championship in 2013. Brian finished second to Kevin Foisy for the Legends Class Championship.

Driver Profile - Derek Horsley

Derek Horsley will be making his second year appearance in his # 24 Late Model. Derek had some issues through his first year in the car, and says now hopefully all of the bugs have been worked out and expects to have a competitive car in 2013. It will be a new look for 2013 and new sponsors for Derek and his team. Gone is the yellow and in with the white and blue for 2013. Derek will have CHEO - Cars for Kids this year as a new sponsor, along with Advance Towing and Recovery and Palmers Scrap Metal. Here is your first look at the new car.

Watch for this car on our CHEO Night as kids will be able to sign their name on the car for free, and adults will be able to sign the car for a donation to CHEO for $ 5.00

Derek started in our four for fun class, then moved to Thunder and then up to Late Model. This is how the progression up the classes is supposed to work and we are grateful that Derek has done that. Watch for the # 24 this year at Capital City Speedway.
